Common University Entrance Test

The Common University Entrance Test- (CUET) is being introduced for admission into all UG Programmes in all Central Universities for the Academic session 2023-24 under the Ministry of Education, (MoE). The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will provide a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas and help establish better connections with the Universities. A single Examination will enable the Candidates to cover a wide outreach and be part of the admissions process to various Central Universities.

1. Exam will be conducted on multiple days in 3 shifts, depending on the number of Candidates and Subject choices.
2. From the aforementioned subjects/languages, the candidate can choose maximum of 10 out of all the 3 Sections.

How to Apply: 

Step 1- Online CUET Registration

1. Visit the official website of https://cuet.nta.nic.in/
2. Click on the ‘Apply’ button flashing on the homepage
3. After clicking on ‘Apply’, a new page will open with a list of courses
4. Choose the program you wish to apply
5. Click on ‘Apply’ and a new page will open

Step 2- Filling out Application Form

1. Details that needed to be filled out in the application form are:
2. Personal Details- Without any error, the applicant needs to fill out their full name, email ID, mobile number, and date of birth in this section. Candidates also need to choose their password at this stage and thereafter, click on ‘Save & Proceed’ tab for other sections to appear on the screen.
3. Education Details- This section requires the qualification details from the candidate, like name of Board, college details, passing year, marks scored or percentage obtained.
4. Address Details- Here candidates need to fill up their address details with correct spellings and pin codes for the communication purpose of the examination.
5. Exam Center- In this section, applicants are required to fill up the exam center details, like the city in which they wish to appear for the examination.
6. Declaration- Next, applicants have to declare by clicking on the check box that all the details they gave are correct and ‘Save & Proceed’ to the next section.

Step 3- Upload Photograph & Signature

In this section, candidates are required to submit a scanned copy of a high-resolution photograph of themselves along with a scanned copy of their signature (Photograph Size: 10KB – 100KB, Signature Size: 5KB – 20KB).

Step 4- Select Courses & Universities

This step is crucial as you cannot change the subject or the university after you finalize the CUET 2024 application. The applicants have to choose a course or the university to which they want to secure admission. Once the course and university are selected, the candidate has to click on ‘Save & Proceed’ buttons for further instructions.

Step 5- Edit Changes

After this, the candidate can have a preview of the application form that they have submitted. If they wish to, they can edit the information by clicking on ‘Edit Application’ and make the desired changes.

Step 6- CUET Registration Fee – Make Payment

Candidates can pay their CUET registration fee in the form of all basic online payment modes like (net banking/ credit card/ debit card) or offline payment with the help of SBI challan. The applicant’s fee status will be clearly visible on the form (paid/unpaid).

Points to Remember while filling out the registration for CUET:

• Reservations for candidates would be made as per Government of India or Participating Universities (PU) norms. For the complete list, the candidate can check that on the official website https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/.
• Applicants should carefully check for the eligibility criteria before applying for the courses, as different universities have varied criteria for every course. Candidates will be responsible if they opt for a programme for which they are not eligible.
• CUET governing body will only accept online applications.
• A candidate must have a valid mobile number and email ID that they would use for a long time as the SMS and email alerts.
• Applicants should have a good-quality photograph and a signature for filling the online CUET application form. They can check for the guidelines on the official website on how to upload photographs and signatures.
• Applicants should carefully fill out the online form without any spelling mistakes.

List of Qualifying Examinations (QE):

1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/ StateBoard, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
4. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
5. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
6. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
7. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years’ duration.
8. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
9. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
10. Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.
11. In case the Class 12 Examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

• CUET (UG) – 2023 is meant for admission to UG courses offered by Central Universities and other specified participating Institutions for the academic year 2023-24.

CUET Slot Timings:

Exam Pattern:

It was a Computer based Test (CBT) of Multiple Choice Type questions (MCQs). 

Each question was of 5 marks and Negative Marking of 1 marks for each wrong answer was applicable.

It was observed that CUET Exams 2023 question papers were simple and easy The CUET exam level was observed from Easy to Moderate.

CUET Exam Analysis May 21 Slots 1, and 2 were easy and slot 3 was moderate. According to student feedback, anyone who has done their preparation well can attempt the paper. More than English and General Knowledge, Reasoning, and Math questions were asked. State and capital questions from the general knowledge section were asked, and the unseen passage in English was very simple. Overall, Slots 1 & 2 of the May 21, 2023, CUET Paper Analysis was simple. This year’s exam format for both English and GT has been modified. CUET 2023 Slot 3 was conducted for domain subjects.

As students stated the Science subjects’ were as moderate to difficult. The question types were similar to those from the previous year Some questions were difficult and time-consuming, while others were easy. In comparison to previous slots, the overall CUET 2023 Slot 3 paper was moderate to difficult.

Section I: Language

English

On day 17, the English paper, according to the students, was easy in difficulty level. The questions were straightforward and easy. Interestingly, there were many similar questions with the Career Launcher mocks.

There were 3 extracts given for Reading Comprehension, and all 3 were passages. 5 questions each were asked from the passages (there were 15 questions in total). Other major topics from where questions came were –

• Sentence Correction: 2 questions
• Indirect speech: Converting (1-2 questions)
• Foreign words: Modus Operandi, Defacto (3-4 questions)
• Para jumbles: 3-4 questions
• Letter-based: Situation wise subject was asked (3 questions)
• Idioms and Phrases: Match the following (5-6 questions)
• Active-passive: Identification of active and passive phrases (4 questions
• Synonym & Anonym: 2-3 questions
• Modal verb: 2-3 questions
• Spelling Error: Conservatory (1-2 questions)

The Accountancy paper presented a remarkably satisfying experience for students. The majority of students found the paper to be relatively easy in terms of difficulty level. The questions covered various topics within the realm of Accountancy, and examples of these inquiries included:

Business Studies

Based on the feedback received from students, the Business Studies paper administered on day 12 was deemed easy. The students’ experience mirrored that of the previous day, where they also found the paper to be manageable. In terms of physics, questions were asked from a range of topics, as indicated below. Let me rephrase it for you: Students’ feedback indicates that the Business Studies exam on day 12 was not challenging, similar to their experience on the previous day. Physics questions covered a variety of topics, as stated below.

Economics

The Economics exam on Day 17 was rated as easy to moderate by most of the test takers in difficulty level. According to the students, the questions were straightforward and from the NCERT book. Questions from various topics were as follows:

• Consumer Behavior and Demand: Utility concept case study – Single commodity case, Monotonic preference (6-7 questions)
• Introductory Microeconomics: Production possibility curve (Out of syllabus) (2 questions)

Macroeconomics

• Balance of Payments: Current and capital account component, BOP surplus and deficit, autonomous and accommodating transactions, foreign exchange (demand and supply), Devaluation and depreciation (4-5 questions)
• Government Budget and the Economy: Revenue and capital receipts, Revenue expenditure and capital expenditure, Government objectives (3-4 questions)
• Determination of Income and Employment: 2 numerical, inflationary gap (3-4 questions)
• National Income: National Income formula matches the following (decent level), Incorrect and correct statement formula based, Precautions questions (3-4 questions)
• Money and Banking: Money supply (1), Bank functions (1) (2-3 questions)

Indian Economic Development

• Rural Development: Rural Development – NABARD (2 Questions), Self-help group question, Sirisla tragedy (4-5 questions)
• Indian Economy 1950-1990: Industrial policy resolution (1956), match the following – Small scale industries (2-3 questions)
• Infrastructure: Social and Economic infrastructure (2-3 questions)

Political Science

Political Science paper was easy to moderate difficulty. Questions were majorly based on topics like

• 4-5 questions from India’s External Relations with China, Bangaldesh, Tashken agreement, and India’s nuclear policy
• 4 questions from the end of bipolarity
• 3-4 questions from Regional Aspirations like Mizo rebellion, Assam accord sign
• 2-3 questions from Cold War Era
• 2-3 questions from Environment and Natural Resources including Kyoto Protocol and Earth Summit

History

History Question paper was based on topics such as- 

• Mahatma Gandhi and Nationalist Movements
• Rebels and the Raj
• Framing of the Constitution
• An Imperial Capital: Vijayanagara (3-4 questions)
• The Mughal Empire (3-4 questions)
• Peasants, Zamindars and the State Agrarian Society
• Partition
• Colonialism

• Questions from Mahatma Gandhi and Nationalist Movements were like- the chronology of Mahatma Gandhi’s movements, year-based match the following and multiple statements from the movements.
• 2 questions were based on Case Studies containing 5 questions each. 2 of these questions were asked from the passage and the result were fact-based. 

Geography-

Questions in geography were based on- 

• Age- Sex Pyramid of which country is bell-shaped
• Identify the correct statement about pack animals
• Which waterways serve Eastern Europe?
• Identify the correct points about human development report
• Largest linguist group of India
• A Question based on Sugar Industry
• Lowest female literacy rate according to 2011 census

Hindi-

• There were two reading comprehension extracts, one was story based and the other was a poem.

Section III: General Test

The students rated the General Test experience to be easier to moderate on Day 17. Questions were based on topics such as Mathematics & Statistics, General Awareness, Discovery & Invention, Logic & Reasoning, and Sports. 

Numerical Ability-

• Ratio and Proportion: 15:45 12 is to what (2-3 questions)
• Mixtures and Allegations: 1-2 questions
• CI and SI: 2 compound interest, 1 Simple interest (3 questions)
• AP & GP: Asked about AP and GP properties (2 questions)
• Number System: Find the mean of prime numbers from 1 to 40 (2-3 questions)
• Percentage: 2-3 questions
• Time, Speed, and Distance: Started at 10 o’clock .. relative speed (2-3 questions)
• Area & Volume: Triangle-related area, Volume (melting) (5-6 questions)
• Trigno Related: Simple formula asked (1-2 questions)
• Algebra: Power-raised questions (1-2 questions)
• Time and Work: 1 man, 1 woman, and 1 child type question (3-4 questions)

Logical Reasoning-

• Series & Coding: Alphabetical series questions were mostly there (5-6 questions)
• Puzzles: Alphabetical series questions were there mostly Arrangement (2 questions)
• Clocks: Angle related (1-2 questions)
• Calendars: 1996 Republic Day was on this day. When will it fall on the other day? – 1 question
• Blood Relations: 1-2 questions
• Visual Reasoning: Water image (1-2 questions)

General Awareness-

• Geography: 1-2 questions
• Science: Tungsten experiment, Formic acid, Speed of light, frequency and wavelength relation – (4-5 questions)
• Sports: 2-3 questions
• History: India Independence -Swaraj movement, and pacts (3-4 questions)
• Books and Authors: The experiment with truth(1-2 questions)
• Important Personalities: Tenure of Important person (1-2 questions)
• Economics: Directly from NCERT (2-3 questions)

Aspirants who had appeared for the CUET 2022 felt that the exam was of easy to moderate level and the questions were on expected lines. The difficulty level of the exam also varied according to the domain subjects. Those who appeared for the Humanities subject found the questions to be lengthy and time-consuming. On the other hand, some candidates, who had appeared for the Mathematics shared that it was difficult to manage time since there were 40 questions to be solved within 45 minutes. It took more than a minute to solve a question, which posed a challenge. 

CUET 2022 Analysis for Language Section

The Language section was mandatory for all candidates. According to the students, this section was very easy. The question types were simple such as identifying the spelling error, match the questions, jumbled sentences, and Reading Comprehension among others. This section did not pose a challenge to the students. 

CUET 2022 Analysis for General Test

This section was of easy to moderate difficulty level. While the majority of the candidates found the questions to be easy and doable, some of them found this section to be slightly difficult. The GK and Current Affairs questions may have posed a challenge to students who have not prepared well for these areas or do not have the habit of reading newspapers regularly. The other questions on Numerical Ability and Reasoning were not compulsory to attempt unless it is mandated based on the papers opted for. 

CUET 2022 Analysis for Domain Subjects

As stated before, the difficulty level of the domain-wise section varied from subject to subject. The overall level of difficulty can be rated as moderate. Some of the questions were time-consuming and required conceptual clarity and knowledge to understand the questions. The types of questions were MCQs, Case Study Based and Fact Based.
